Ethan Johnson
FOUNDER and Adventure Coordinator
At the heart of Pogie’s Academy is a deep belief that childhood should be full of wonder, discovery, and purpose. Our director brings that vision to life every day—with years of experience creating unforgettable, enriching experiences for children through hands-on education and outdoor adventure.
As the founder of a beloved local youth camp and multiple family-centered ventures, he has spent the last decade building programs that prioritize character, creativity, and confidence. His leadership combines logistical know-how with genuine care for every child’s growth and potential.
Driven by a desire to create something different—something better—he launched Pogie’s Academy to meet a need parents had voiced for years: a school that feels like camp, but teaches like the best classrooms. One that’s academically rigorous, rooted in play and nature, and built on trust between families and educators.
His vision shapes everything we do at Pogie’s—from our dual-campus approach and small-group teaching model to the joyful, tight-knit community we are building together.

Callie Hermanson
Kindergarden Teacher
Hello! My name is Callie Hermanson, and I'm thrilled to be teaching Kindergarten at Pogies Academy for the 2025–2026 school year! This will be my first year in the classroom, and I couldn't be more excited to be part of the beginning of an exciting new chapter at Pogies Academy. I earned my degree in Educational Studies from Columbia College in 2025 with a focus in Elementary education, where I was also a member of the women’s basketball team.
I was born and raised in Swansboro, NC, and I am overjoyed to be teaching in a community that is so close to my heart. When I'm not in the classroom, you can usually find me at the beach, playing basketball, or hanging out with friends.
My teaching philosophy centers around hands-on learning, building a close classroom community, and a commitment to making every classroom experience meaningful for each student. I believe in creating an inclusive environment where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated. I strive to help my students reach their full potential by encouraging creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning. My classroom will be a space where children can explore, play, and grow while having fun and developing confidence in themselves and their abilities.
