Dual Campus Learning
We operate on both our Farm Campus and Water Campus. Truthfully, we believe that
the dual campus learning will set us apart.
The Farm gives us access to over 100 acres of nature, wildlife, farm-life, and most
importantly, our “Farm Town”. The Farm Town is an integrative learning playground
where what we learn throughout the week is put into practice whether by reading,
counting, writing, using imagination, or simply being a good steward. With buildings
resembling a market, a bank, a cafe, and other various buildings, children will be able
to place what they have learned into practical use through imaginative play. The
Farm, in warmer months, will be utilized once a week, and in the cooler months, more
often throughout the week.
The Water location gives us access to the vast coastal environment that Swansboro
has to offer. It also serves as our main traditional classroom for this year. The Water
location will be where drop-off and pick-up occur each day and where we spend the
majority of the week, especially on warmer days. During their exploration time,
students may take trips out to the local sand bars, estuaries, and barrier islands to
explore, look for fossils and shark teeth, fish, or try their hand at building a sand
castle.
Our classroom is set up to be both structured and full of possibility. At the center are
child-sized tables arranged for group and independent work, surrounded by low, open
shelves that hold hands-on materials for math, reading, science, and nature study.
There’s a rug area up front for circle time, read-alouds, and group lessons. Along the
windows, a reading nook with floor pillows and a small shelf of living books invites
quiet exploration.
We’ve dedicated special areas to nurture creativity and expression.
The Maker’s Corner is stocked with art supplies, recycled materials, natural loose
parts, scissors, tape, glue, and space for invention—perfect for crafts, building, or
spontaneous projects.
Across the room, the Theater & Music Corner holds dress-up costumes, props,
puppets, simple instruments like drums and xylophones, and space to perform or
play.
There’s also a Peace Corner with calming tools and soft seating, where kids can reset
or reflect when needed. Every space is designed to support independent learning,
joyful discovery, and creative growth.
